Pat Bulmer, CEP 2000 -- CAW-CEP merger approved by CAW, to go to CEP national convention in October. We are preparing for negotiations at Kelowna Daily Courier and other CEP 2000 Interior newspapers.

Rose Jurkic, President CUPE 1123 -- CUPE 1123 has been in a bitter dispute with its employer the Okanagan Regional Library for over a year and a half. At the beginning of negotiations after we refused to accept 0% increase the Okanagan Regional Library Board voted to lock us out, it was a threat to keep us afraid. After a series of job actions, we finally managed to reach a tentative agreement a couple of weeks ago. CUPE 1123 members will be voting on the package September 9th and the Okanagan Regional Library Board will vote on September 19th. Both negotiating committees are recommending approval. CUPE 1123 was seeking modest wage increases and improvements to the dental plan. We want to thank everyone that supported us through these difficult times, providing moral and financial support. During this time we were also able to unionize one of the non-union branches of the ORL, the Princeton Branch. Our members stood up to the employer and stood up for a fair and equitable settlement, supporting their committee and the job actions, we are extremely proud of them.

Elizabeth Woods, BCFORUM -- A very big thank you to Carole and the NOLC executive for organizing the Labour Day Celebration BBQ prior to the meeting. It was really fun and a great way for new delegates to meet many union activists prior to the formal meeting. City Councillors Colin Basran, and Mohini Singh, along with her family, mingled with members of the Labour Council and their families. We were also able to meet the new United Way Executive Director, Marla O'Brien during an informal but welcoming social event. Thank you to CUPE for the truck and its operational contents! Thank you again, Carole, for making it happen.

Wes Kmet, guest & BCFORUM expressed disappointment that the NOLC did not have a community Labour Day event and would like to see one organized next year.

Cheryl Stone, UFCW 1518 -- Thank you to Carole Gordon, President for writing the article which appeared in the Kelowna Daily Courier, August 31, 2012 titled, "Workers Have Earned their Labour Day Holiday." The article is attached in case you missed it. There were also "Labour Day radio ads" played for the public to hear.
