Pritchard re-elected NOLC president
Re-elected Wednesday night, the president of the North Okanagan Labour Council was back at his post Thursday morning preparing to join the fight against Canada Post's plan to cut home mail delivery.
The labour council is joining with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers Kelowna local to host a town-hall meeting on postal cuts Feb. 15.
The event will take place at 1 p.m. at the Central School gym, 1825 Richter St.
"You're not the only one who wants to keep your services," is the slogan local CUPW president Dawn Klappe is using for the meeting.
The labour council, the umbrella organization for unions in the North and Central Okanagan, elected its new executive at its annual general meeting. Pritchard, a Coast Capri Hotel employee with UNITEHERE, local 40, was elected to his second term as president.
Labour council members will also be preparing for the annual April 28 Day of Mourning ceremonies, which traditionally take place at Ben Lee Park. Other events for the next year are also in the works.
Also elected to the executive were Ronn Dunn, Karen Abramsen, Nikki Inouye as vice-presidents, treasurer Ron Bobowski, recording secretary Cheryl Stone, central delegate Helen Repole, northern delegate Wynn Hartfelder, and Carmen Belanger as sergeant at arms. Trustees are Greg McGowan, Louise Gibson and Laureen Freayh.
