United Way Period Promise - Gail Neufeld HEU – The United Way SIBC has organized the Period Promise Campaign again this 2020. The NOLC union affiliates are asked to collect product from their members in their workplace. The products should be brought to our March 4, 2020 meeting and Gail will take it all to the United Way for distribution.
The Period products collected will be distributed throughout our community through each of the following non-profits.
H.O.P.E Outreach / KARIS Support Society / N.O.W. Canada / The Bridges Youth & Family / Elizabeth Fry Society
and the Kelowna Women’s Shelter. A motion was made at the Executive meeting to spend up to $500.00 on this product to be donated. M/S/C
- EXECUTIVE BOARD RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Executive Board discussed the Pink Shirt Anti Bullying Campaign. An ad will be placed in the Kelowna Daily Courier February 26, 2020 on a special full page colour feature with several other community sponsors.
The Executive Board discussed the upcoming High Ground Governance Forum being held March 27/28 2020 in Vancouver. A decision was made to send two NOLC delegates to this forum. The motion is below under New Business.

Louise Gibson MoveUp - A resolution regarding ICBC was read aloud at the meeting, this resolution is attached. A motion was made that the NOLC accept this Resolution for the CLC Convention. M/S/C
Mathew Aitken, CUPW 760 – Mathew Aitken made a motion to have the NOLC reach out to other Labour Councils across Canada to have “someone” call a General Strike” May 1, 2020. This motion was M/S but not carried therefore the motion failed.

Communications Committee report: Ian Gordon reported that the NOLC committee will be creating an animation style film regarding “What are Labour Councils” Also a letter writing campaign with topics such as political/community concerns is in the process of being organized.
Political Action Committee report: Ian Gordon highlighted topics that the committee discussed.
RCMP Letter to City – The letter was discussed it will be revised to reflect the News article in Castanet of RCMP internal review of sexual assault. Ian will revise the letter.
Promoting NDP – discussed what the LC can do
Attending School Board & City Council meetings
Inviting unendorsed and endorsed politicians to NOLC meetings
Campaign to make transit public in the Okanagan
CLC Winter School Reports: Attendees were very appreciative of the NOLC for sending them to the CLC Winter School. Much was learned and topics will be shared in the future.

WCFF 2020: Feb 27-March 1 – reminder to try to attend. Check the website for program details. http://www.worldfilmfestkelowna.net/ The NOLC sponsored films are: 3 episodes of “Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia”

High Ground Governance Forum March 2020 - A motion was made to spend up to $3000.00 to send delegates Kelly Hutchinson BCGEU and Luke Mortenson IBEW 213 along with two City Councillors, one from Kelowna and one from Vernon to the High Ground Governance Forum March 2020. M/S/C
Labour Day Picnic 2020 A committee has been formed and plans are under way. We have booked Ben Lee Park for Monday, Sept 7, 2020. Please contact Cheryl to sign up for this committee; many hands make less work. A meeting will be scheduled very soon.
