Earlier news release from the NOLC:
The North Okanagan Labour Council is holding its annual Labour Day Picnic on September 2nd from noon to 3 pm on the fields behind the Hollywood Road Education Services site at 1040 Hollywood Road, Kelowna.
A fun event for the whole family, the picnic will be featuring a free BBQ, local live music, giveaway items, community organizations and union displays, bouncy castles, and the City of Kelowna Park & Play activities for the children.
Labour Day is a holiday held annually on the first Monday of September, giving communities the opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of union and non-union workers across Canada.
“Things like Medicare, minimum wage and parental leave were won thanks to working people across Canada. This is why every year on Labour Day, Canada’s unions celebrate working people as we all continue our work to improve the lives of all Canadians,” says Ian Gordon, president of the North Okanagan Labour Council.
“The $15 minimum wage is changing the lives of working families across the country and our PharmaCare campaign hopes to do the same.”
Everyone is welcome to come celebrate Labour Day with the North Okanagan Labour Council, chartered by the Canadian Labour Congress that includes over 40 affiliated local unions representing thousands of workers from Peachland to Enderby B.C.
